What length punching bag do I need?

The length of the punching bag you need depends on several factors, including your height, the type of training you want to do, and your personal preference. If you only throw punches during your training sessions, a maximum length of 120 cm is sufficient. If you prefer the bag to move a bit more during training, a 100 cm punching bag could be the right choice.

If you also want to throw kicks during training, we recommend 180 cm, as this gives you more weight and surface area compared to the 150 cm punching bag.

Below is an overview of the various punching bag sizes:

80 cm punching bag:

Suitable for fast punches and accuracy training.

Ideal for getting started with punching bag workouts.

100 cm punching bag:

Suitable for fast punches, but offers a bit more length for variety in your training, such as high and low combinations.

Suitable for both beginners and advanced boxers.

120 cm punching bag:

Offers more room for punch combinations and can also be suitable for light kicks.

Ideal for developing strength and endurance.

150 cm punching bag:

Suitable for both punches and kicks.

Ideal for varied training and improving both punching and kicking techniques.

180 cm punching bag:

Specifically designed for punches and kicks; more surface area and weight than the 150 cm punching bag. Ideal for advanced boxers and kickboxers who want to train a full range of techniques.

Hanging the punching bag

To ensure the punching bag can be used safely without the risk of it falling, a secure mounting is required. Here are the two most common hanging options: ceiling bracket and wall bracket.

Ceiling bracket:

A ceiling bracket is a sturdy bracket that is attached to the ceiling. It must be secured to a wooden beam or a concrete ceiling. You also have the option to order wood screws or anchor bolts alongside it.

When using a ceiling bracket, it is important to ensure that the ceiling mounting is strong enough to support the weight and impact of punches and kicks.

Wall bracket:

A wall bracket is similar to a ceiling bracket but is mounted to the wall. This bracket must also be secured to a solid wall or a wooden frame.

When using a wall bracket, make sure the wall is sturdy enough to support the weight of the punching bag and the impact of punches and kicks.

With both mounting methods, it is essential to ensure that the attachment point is safe and reliable. If in doubt, always consult a professional such as a carpenter or structural advisor. Safety always comes first when using punching bags.
