Why are boxing shoes important and how do you choose the right ones?
When you step into the ring, do you put on your old pair of trainers? Of course not! Those are often too bulky or too slippery. You need boxing shoes, because they are specially designed for your sport. They give you more control, reduce your risk of injury and make training more comfortable. At Rumble Store you'll find boxing shoes from top brands such as Venum and Adidas, all made to improve your sporting performance. But which shoes suit you best? In this blog you'll read why boxing shoes are so important and what to look for when choosing new boxing shoes.
Why are boxing shoes important during boxing?
During training, boxing shoes are not a fashion item. They are essential for your safety and performance. But why?
- Grip and balance: thanks to the flat, slightly non-slip sole you can turn quickly, move smoothly and stand firmly. This reduces your risk of slipping or getting stuck during footwork.
- Ankle support: the mid-top to high-top fit provides extra support during rotational movements, reducing your risk of sprains and other ankle injuries.
- Lightweight and lightning fast: boxing shoes are made from lightweight materials and feel almost like a second skin, allowing you to make all your movements smoothly and quickly.
-
Hygienic and protective: boxing shoes keep your feet clean and protect you against sweat, fungal infections or damage from mats and floors. Not only does that feel better, it's also much safer.
Why can't I wear regular trainers during kickboxing?
But why can't you train in 'regular' sports shoes? Technically anything goes, but we recommend training only in boxing shoes. Regular sports shoes are often too heavy and don't provide enough ankle support, increasing your risk of spraining them. They also have a slightly grippier sole, which makes movement more difficult.
How do I choose the right boxing shoes?
Now you know why boxing shoes are important, but how do you choose the right ones? Our range features a wide selection of high-quality boxing shoes in various sizes. From boxing shoes for the smallest kickboxers to shoes in size 48, we've got you covered. That said, the choice isn't just about size — it's also about the type of shoe. You're probably wondering: should I go for mid-top boxing shoes or high-top boxing shoes? That choice is ultimately yours. We do often find that beginners tend to go for mid-tops, while more advanced boxers prefer high-top boxing shoes.
What are the possible downsides of boxing shoes?
High-tops are harder to put on. You need to fully unlace them and tie them up properly again. Some models have a zip, but we don't sell those — zips wear out faster.
Also pay close attention to the fit around your calves. The length may be fine, but if the shaft is too tight or too loose, training won't be comfortable. Want to make sure your new shoes fit properly? We recommend trying them on first at our store.
Can I buy boxing shoes for my child with room to grow?
Thinking about buying boxing shoes for your child a size too big so they last longer? We don't recommend this. The reason you need boxing shoes rather than just any sports shoe is that boxing shoes provide more support. If your child's boxing shoes are too big, they won't sit firmly around the ankle either.
Which boxing shoe brand is the best?
Our range includes boxing shoes from various brands:
- Venum
- Hayabusa
- Nike
- Adidas
- Fly
All our boxing shoes offer excellent grip and provide stability during training.
